A fully custom e-commerce platform for a manufacturer that needed more than Shopify could offer.
The Need
A Made-in-the-USA manufacturing company needed more than a brochure site. They had two completely different customer types — retail buyers ordering single units and wholesale accounts ordering in bulk — each needing different pricing, different shipping rates, and different checkout flows. No off-the-shelf cart handled their model.
What I Built
A fully custom e-commerce system from the ground up. The ordering flow walks customers through quantity selection, address entry, and real-time UPS shipping rate calculation via OAuth 2.0. Wholesale customers log in and see tiered pricing that adjusts automatically based on their account level and order volume — plus discounted shipping rates. The system handles invoicing, packing slips, order status tracking, and delivery date estimates. I recently migrated the UPS integration from their legacy XML/SOAP API to the modern REST API, with token caching that dramatically reduces API calls.
The Result
A sales platform that handles the complexity of dual customer types without making either one jump through hoops. Retail customers get a simple buying experience. Wholesale accounts get the pricing and workflow they expect. And the business owner can manage it all without needing to understand the plumbing underneath.
